airports from airplanes*
“A great photographer can make interesting pictures anywhere....but it's a lot easier if you stand in front of something interesting.” -Jay Maisel
Just like a child on an adventure, I'm constantly making images out of airplane windows. Accumulating these images over the years, airports emerged as a pervasive subject. Small and large airports weave their way throughout this collection. Shooting through several inches of scratched up plexiglass gives a unique look that I take one step further by trying to emulate my all-time favorite black and white film, Neopan 1600.
It is the harsh man-made shapes of the runways that capture my attention as they split otherwise peaceful and serene landscapes and corrupt patterns of homes and streets in urban settings.
*not every shot is an 'airport from an airplane', there are several capitatiating shapes and patterns from the air that are mixed throughout... thank you for your understanding ;)
